Anti-Gravity Rehab & Training
The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill™ technology available at MAXX Physical Therapy uses patented Differential Air Pressure technology to gently and precisely reduce gravitational forces on athletes and those suffering recent injury due to trauma or recent surgery. This cutting-edge treadmill gently unweights its user from 100% to as low as 20% of his or her body weight and allows them to move without pain or interference to their natural gait mechanics. This technology is used by several professional sports teams and has successfully helped millions of people to shorten orthopedic recovery times, manage neurological conditions and chronic disease, build strength and endurance while aging, and increase athletic performance.
This technology is better than rehab in a pool or with a harness because it allows for normal gait patterns and balance. This also allows for superior weight-supported walking, running, and closed kinetic-chain exercise. The unit provides real-time gait data, pain recording, and live video monitoring which improves clinical decision-making on the fly with objective, measurable information and visual feedback for improved outcomes.
Who does the AlterG help, and how?
Orthopedics: Clients are empowered to move pain-free again and are enabled earlier to perform weight-bearing exercises while protecting sensitive healing tissue. Range of motion and normalized gait mechanics can be safely encouraged, and gravitational forces are reduced to help maintain (or regain) healthy conditioning.
Neurological: Our anti-gravity treadmill supports motor learning in a fall-safe environment. It enables functional activity and task-specific training while providing support in a controlled setting for static and dynamic standing practice.
Chronic Conditions: Through the AlterG's technology, we are able to reduce the barrier to exercise for deconditioned, obese, or otherwise impaired users. This Anti-Gravity Treadmill allows the clinician to set up patients for continued and escalating fitness achievement. The user is able to increase his or her exercise volume while minimizing stress-related workloads. The treadmill provides objective data to incentivize long-term engagement.
Seniors: Our more mature clients are able to reduce gravitational forces to help maintain (or regain) healthy conditioning in a fall-safe environment. Seniors are empowered to move pain-free again while the treadmill provides support in a controlled setting for static and dynamic standing practice. Seniors are also enabled to improve their walking speed to decrease morbidity and fall risk.
Athletes: Injured players are able to limit downtime by training through injuries and are able to return to sport in better condition. Athletes are enabled to resume post-surgery training earlier and can increase their training volume while minimizing the risk of stress-related injury. The Anti-Gravity Treadmill used at MAXX Physical Therapy provides objective data to measure progress and enhance the recovering player's motivation.
