Post-Surgical Rehab

Your physical therapist at MAXX will work with you and your physician to develop a post-surgical rehabilitation plan of care using therapeutic exercise and functional training in conjunction with manual techniques to address your individual needs. The plan of care will be developed after an evaluation performed by a physical therapist and will include short term and long term rehabilitation goals against which progress will be measured. As your therapy progresses, you will be re-evaluated by your therapist who will be in communication with your physician to ensure you are progressing and your goals are being met. We always strive for the best possible outcome for each individual patient.

At MAXX, our Lake Charles physical therapists work closely with orthopedic physicians preparing patients for orthopedic surgery and facilitating their post-op recovery. Most patients will require physical therapy following their operation, and in some cases, as soon as 24 hours post-surgery. The goal is to restore strength, flexibility, and range of motion so that patients regain their maximum level of function and get back to staying active for work, sport, and life.

Varying Treatments Driven by Results

Clinical studies have shown that active manual physical therapy is highly effective for reducing pain and restoring function quickly after an injury. We use a range of proven, time-tested techniques along with the most advanced manual physical therapy, including soft-tissue mobilization, myofascial release and more.  By promoting improved circulation through early movement, therapy results in faster healing of the injured surgical site and help prevent scar tissue formation.

Goals, Treatments & Modalities

Your individualized treatment goals may include improving your functional independence, decreasing pain, returning to normal movement patterns, increasing your strength, reducing risk of future trauma, and improving your everyday activities. Treatments consist of specialized, individual care including joint mobilizations/manipulations, exercise training for strength, flexibility, balance and core stabilization, trigger point dry needling, soft tissue mobilization and sport-specific athletic training. The modalities used at Maxx PT include electrical stimulation, ultrasound, hot/cold therapy, fluidotherapy, and trigger point dry needling. Our occupational therapy team may provide education on self-care activities of daily living during your recovery and to prevent future injuries. The physical therapists and occupational therapists at Maxx PT will design a program specifically for your injury to help you achieve your maximum functional ability and help you successfully return to your work sport and life.
